I support product-based, heritage-rich businesses with high environmental impact transition into sustainable operations without compromising tradition or profitability. As part of this transition, I often support them to become B Corp certified, so that they have a 3rd party certification to show they are well and truly on the way to being a socially & environmentally responsible business.
What led me here? A lifetime of moments.
And I think it started when I was 10 years old. These are the experiences that shaped my path:
- My parents chose vocations rooted in service. My mum was a teacher who spent hours supporting students and staff through challenges. My dad was a dentist who worked in prisons throughout his career. He was raised a Quaker and lived by a deep belief in fairness – a value I was brought up with.
- A summer in Latin America before university changed everything. I met people from Mexico and Ecuador during a French course. Visiting them exposed me to the huge inequality between rich and poor in the region – and opened my eyes for the first time to global injustice.
- A year abroad in Mexico deepened that awareness. I fell in love with the culture, the music, the freedom – and also saw just how unfair life could be for so many. I knew I had to do something.
- I explored human rights work. I joined a Peace Brigades International taster course, drawn to its Quaker-aligned values of non-violence and non-hierarchy. But I quickly realised I wasn’t emotionally equipped for the trauma involved.
- I pursued a Master’s in Latin American Development. A module on sustainable development instantly resonated with my love of nature and rural life, reminding me of childhood summers in Spain.
- That led to 4 years with a sustainable development charity in Mexico. We supported farmers to move away from chemicals, helping protect water and biodiversity. We also helped women launch micro-enterprises to support their families. It was deeply fulfilling work.
- Later, at Innovate UK, I saw how innovation can solve social and environmental challenges. That insight tied together everything I’d experienced – development, justice, sustainability, empowerment.
So when I discovered the B Corp movement in 2017, it was a HUGE lightbulb moment. It seemed to pull together everything I’d experienced and wanted to do.
I’m now driven by one purpose: to support mission-driven organisations creating a positive impact for people and the planet.
